About a 1 & 1/4 hours drive from Lancaster County, Valley Forge National Historical Park was where General George Washington built the Continental Army into a force to contend with, during the winter of 1777-78. No battles were fought here, however more than 2,000 soldiers died Valley Forge is the story of an army’s struggle to survive against terrible odds, hunger and disease.
Washington’s original stone headquarters are restored and furnished, restored log huts and many statues and monuments can be found throughout the park.
